Best Priest leveling build for WoW Forever (levels 1 to 20)
Level a WoW Forever Priest with 2 points in Wand Specialization, then 5 in Spirit Tap, then start Shadow: Shadow Word: Pain, Mind Blast on cooldown and a wand does most of the killing, and Spirit Tap refills you after each kill. Mind Flay lands at level 22 on this route.
Reported Five independent guides agree on the opening seven points, three on the Shadow continuation, and the talent rows are cross-checked against four beta client datamines. Talent effects come from the beta client, so numbers can change with each build. Open this build in the talent calculator.
Why Shadow (wand leveling) for leveling a Priest in WoW Forever
- Every guide checked opens the same way: Wand Specialization 2/2 at 10 and 11, then Spirit Tap 5/5 by 16. Wands do most of your damage under 20 and Spirit Tap now triggers on every killing blow, doubling Spirit and giving 50% mana regeneration while casting for 15 seconds.
- Shadow is the strongest solo tree once Mind Flay arrives, and its row 2 talents (Improved Shadow Word: Pain, Shadow Focus) raise your damage on the way there.
- Discipline's new toys, Penance and Soul Warding, are row 4 and 5 talents, so they only matter from the mid 20s onward. Holy Nova at 11 Holy points is the other route, but no guide recommends it for solo levelling.
Alternative: Discipline, if you plan to heal dungeons from the mid 20s: Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2, Twin Disciplines 3, Improved Power Word: Shield 3, then Meditation and Mental Agility, reaching Soul Warding at 32 and Penance at 38.
Priest talent order, levels 10 to 20
| Level | Talent | Rank | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | Wand Specialization | 1 | Now 2 ranks: 13% then 25% wand damage. |
| 11 | Wand Specialization | 2 | |
| 12 | Spirit Tap | 1 | Changed: any killing blow doubles Spirit for 15 seconds. |
| 13 | Spirit Tap | 2 | |
| 14 | Spirit Tap | 3 | |
| 15 | Spirit Tap | 4 | |
| 16 | Spirit Tap | 5 | 100% chance from here. |
| 17 | Improved Shadow Word: Pain | 1 | Plus 3 seconds of duration per rank. |
| 18 | Improved Shadow Word: Pain | 2 | |
| 19 | Shadow Focus | 1 | 1% Shadow hit per rank. |
| 20 | Shadow Focus | 2 |
Levels 21 to 30: Shadow Focus to 3/5 at 21, Mind Flay at 22 (the 11-point Shadow milestone), Improved Mind Flay 2/2 at 23 and 24, Improved Mind Blast to 2/5 at 25 and 26, Vampiric Embrace at 27, then Shadow Weaving 3/3 by 30. If you want Mind Flay at exactly 20, skip Wand Specialization and take Spirit Tap 5, Improved Shadow Word: Pain 2 and Shadow Focus 3 instead; no guide recommends that, but the numbers work.
Priest abilities to train, levels 1 to 20
| Level | Ability | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Smite, Lesser Heal, Power Word: Fortitude | Keep Fortitude up at all times. |
| 4 | Shadow Word: Pain | Buy every rank at 10, 18 and 20; it is your best damage per mana. |
| 6 | Power Word: Shield | Buy every rank. Shield before every pull. |
| 8 | Renew, Fade | Fade rank 2 at 20 can wait. |
| 10 | Mind Blast, Inner Fire, Cure Disease, Resurrection, Shackle Undead | Mind Blast on cooldown is your biggest hit. Racial spells arrive at 10 too. |
| 14 | Holy Fire, Psychic Scream | Psychic Scream saves you from adds. Holy Fire is optional on a Shadow route. |
| 16 | Heal | Rarely needed while soloing; buy it for dungeons. |
| 18 | Dispel Magic | Plus new ranks of Smite, Shadow Word: Pain and Shield. |
| 20 | Devouring Plague, Fear Ward, Flash Heal, Mind Soothe | Devouring Plague is now baseline for every race (128 damage over 24 seconds, heals you, 1-minute cooldown). Fear Ward is baseline on a 3-minute cooldown. |
Priest leveling rotation in WoW Forever
- Power Word: Shield yourself, then open with Mind Blast or a max-range Smite.
- Shadow Word: Pain as the mob closes in. Mind Blast again when it comes off its 8-second cooldown.
- Wand until it dies. Switch to the wand at around half health, and make sure you land the killing blow so Spirit Tap fires.
- On groups, put Shadow Word: Pain on two or three mobs and wand the weakest. Psychic Scream if it goes wrong.
- Sit and drink only when Spirit Tap has run out; with it up you regenerate fast enough to keep moving.
Best race for a leveling Priest
| Faction | Race | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Gnome (new combination) | Eureka makes your next three spells cost half and hit 10% harder, Expansive Mind adds 5% mana, and the Priest racial spells Confounding Flash and Contingency Plan both help solo. |
| Alliance | Human | Divine Grace is a strong emergency heal on others and Perception helps in PvP. Pick Human for a Discipline healer. |
| Horde | Undead | Dark Sacrifice (new, converts health to mana), Cannibalize now restores mana too, and Will of the Forsaken breaks fear. |
| Horde | Troll | Berserking for 10% attack and cast speed, and Shadowguard as the racial Priest spell. |
Every racial is on the WoW Forever racials page, and the class list per race on the race and class table.
Professions and camping for a Priest
Tailoring and Enchanting is the usual pair: cloth for your own gear, and disenchanting spare drops for wand and gear enchants. Gnomes can take Engineering with Mining instead. For camping, the Tailor's Faction Banner gives Spirit (which Spirit Tap doubles) and the Herbalist's Incense Candle gives Intellect. The First Aid Kit's Stamina does not stack with Power Word: Fortitude, so a Priest gets less from it than other classes. See how Camping works for every camp object.
Gear and stats under level 20
- A wand upgrade every few levels is the single biggest damage increase you can make.
- Stat priority under 20 is Spirit and Stamina on a wand route, then Intellect; healing power items now also give a third of their value as spell damage.
- Hall of Thanes (13 to 18) drops reported for casters include Robes of the Disgraced Thane, Aetherwisp Bracers and Golemheart Stave. Ruins of Lordaeron (15 to 20) includes Wispcloth Leggings, Coldspire Staff and Mirror of Rath'mael. Item stats are hidden until they drop.
Priest leveling questions
Is Shadow or Discipline better for leveling a Priest in WoW Forever?
Reported Shadow for solo levelling. The first seven points are the same either way (Wand Specialization and Spirit Tap), and Discipline's new talents Penance and Soul Warding sit too deep to matter before the mid 20s.
When does a Priest get Mind Flay in WoW Forever?
Reported It is the 11-point Shadow talent. Taking Wand Specialization first means Mind Flay at level 22; skipping it gives Mind Flay at 20.
Is Devouring Plague still Undead only?
Reported No. In the beta every race learns Devouring Plague at level 20, and Fear Ward is baseline too. Each race keeps two racial Priest spells at 10 and 20.
What is the best race for a Priest in WoW Forever?
Reported Gnome on Alliance, the new combination, for Eureka and Expansive Mind. Undead on Horde for Dark Sacrifice and the improved Cannibalize.
