WoW Forever addons
Addons work in WoW Forever, but on the modern client API with the same restrictions as the Midnight expansion: enemy health, damage numbers and threat are hidden from addons, so tools that automate combat decisions cannot exist. In their place Blizzard ships a built-in damage meter, cooldown manager and swing timer, and says addons should not be required.
The WoW Forever addon rules
- Modern API. Forever runs the retail-era interface code, with Edit Mode, quest markers and the Cooldown Manager built in.
- Midnight restrictions. Combat values are secret to addons. Blizzard said it removed only the functions that gave a competitive advantage.
- Built-in tools. A damage meter, cooldown manager and swing timer are part of the game, so the most common addons are covered.
- Simpler encounters. Blizzard said Forever's boss fights are designed to be playable without warning addons.
Which addons work in the WoW Forever beta
| Addon | Status | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Questie | Has a Forever release | Reported |
| Details (damage meter) | Listed as compatible, though combat values are limited by the API | Reported |
| Deadly Boss Mods | Being ported | Reported |
| WeakAuras | Does not work, and its authors have stopped porting it | Reported |
| Classic-era addons in general | Need updates for the changed API; many load but break on combat data or saved settings | Reported |
| Built-in damage meter, cooldown manager, swing timer | Provided by Blizzard. The cooldown manager is incomplete for some classes in the beta | Official |
One beta bug affects every addon: saved settings are written but not loaded when the client starts fresh, so layouts and keybinds reset. Details are on the beta fixes page. If you prefer the original interface, the Classic preset removes quest markers and the combined bag.
